  12. This  is  a  complete  collection  of General MIDI instruments for use with
  13. GMPlay.   ToneMap and a DrumMap files are provided.  The samples are in IFF
  14. format and have been compressed with XPK SQSH.
  15.  
  16. As  a goodie, I have added some MIDI files that were provided by Alessandro
  17. de Luca and Christian Sauer.  They sound quite nicely with the new samples.
  18.  
  19. For  installation  I  recommend  backing-up the original GMPlay samples and
  20. Tone- and DrumMap files (e.g.  by renaming the directories).  Then copy the
  21. new  Tones  and  Drums  to  the  GM:  directory and replace the ToneMap and
  22. DrumMap files.  Later GMPlay releases will probably allow you to select one
  23. of multiple sample sets.
  24.  
  25. This  sample collection was created by Christian Sauer using a SoundBlaster
  26. 16  sound card for sampling.  The samples were then copied to the Amiga and
  27. edited  and  looped  using SoundFx (which is available on Aminet).  Thanks,
  28. Christian!  Great work.

  30. The  sound  quality of the new samples is quite good, technically speaking,
  31. but some samples may sound a bit more synthetic as they come from some lame
  32. PC  sound  card.  So see yourself which samples you like best (the original
  33. set or this one)

  44. Some tips:
  45.  
  46. The  new  samples  will  take  more  memory, as they have been sampled with
  47. 44.1khz and therefore they are quite large.
  48.  
  49. The  samples  contain  less  bass  than  the original GMPlay samples.  So I
  50. recommend turning up the bass controller on your HIFI equipment.
  51.  
  52. Some  instruments seem to be too loud compared to other instruments.  Later
  53. GMPlay  releases  will  provide  per-sample  volume control in the Tone and
  54. Drummap files.
  55.  
  56. You  might  want  to  decompress  the samples for faster loading.  WARNING:
  57. They will expand to 9.5MB!  You can use some freely available XPK utilities
  58. for decompressing, like xDrop or xPack.
  59.  
  60. Expect  the  next  GMPlay  releases  in november.  I have to pass some ugly
  61. exams  first.   My  studies  have  precedence  over my programming projects
  62. (sorry)...
